The Jefferson County Ohio Sheriff’s Office serves as a full service law enforcement agency responsible for public safety, court related duties and the lawful custody of individuals entrusted to our care. Our mission is to protect the lives, rights and property of those who live in and visit Jefferson County while preserving peace and order throughout the community.
We are committed to preventing crime, enforcing the law fairly and safeguarding personal liberties as guaranteed by law. All duties are carried out with integrity, professionalism and respect, guided by the highest ethical standards to maintain the trust and confidence of the public we serve.
Jefferson County is located in eastern Ohio along the Ohio River and had a population of approximately 65,000 residents as of the 2020 census. The county is bordered by Belmont County to the north, Harrison County to the west, Carroll County to the northwest and Columbiana County to the northeast. Across the Ohio River, Jefferson County shares its eastern boundary with Hancock County and Brooke County in West Virginia.
Jefferson County was established on December 8, 1818 and has a longstanding tradition of elected sheriffs serving its residents. Like all Ohio counties, the office became elected after statehood in 1803, with duties expanding over time to include modern law enforcement, public safety operations and corrections services.

The Jefferson County Ohio Sheriff’s Office mobile application is designed to strengthen communication between the Sheriff’s Office and the residents and visitors of Jefferson County. The app provides a convenient way for users to submit tips, report non emergency concerns and stay informed about public safety updates and community information.
Through this mobile platform, users can access timely announcements, alerts and resources intended to support transparency and community engagement. The application is one of several outreach tools used by the Sheriff’s Office to better connect with the public we serve.
